“If music be the food of love, play on” — Shakespeare

I sat in the audience, transfixed by the voices emanating from the stage. As a last-minute idea, I booked tickets for a gig by an Irish band called I Draw Slow. A mix of folk, bluegrass, and country.

It wasn’t just the lyrics and beats that caused the rush to my senses.

The feeling of being part of a collective also brought me joy. I sat amidst another 150 people in a small community hall on the edge of a country village in West Cork, Ireland. Music has an uncanny way of building cohesion among strangers.

Even a week later, I am still humming their song Goldmine.

When we give ourselves the time to stop and listen to music, we allow a stirring inside of us.

Have you ever felt the electric buzz from live music? It feels like a musical shower, washing away stress and negativity. A musical process of pressing the reset button.

Live music leaves my body tingly as if I’ve just jumped in the freezing cold sea. Does it have that effect on you?
