Adult-Only Spaces Are Not an Attack on Children

Who knew four words could be so divisive?

After a recent post on X (Twitter) went viral with over 75 million views, some parents are up in arms, while some childfree dog owners are smug.

But what started as a tongue-in-cheek sign for a pub in St Albans, England, has since escalated into a cultural talking point about whether we are facing a systemic intolerance toward children.

And just like that, the wedge between non-parents and parents is driven even deeper.

But this isn’t even about parents and non-parents. Every reasonable person understands this.

So, is there more going on with these four divisive words than meets the eye?

In the Tweet, we can see an image of the now infamous Kyle crouched down by a pub sign that reads “Dog friendly” on one line and “Child free” on the next. All Kyle himself has written is “Found my new local”.
