I’m childfree by choice and I guarantee telling people I don’t want children is not the end of the discussion. The last decade I have endured crippling pressure from people close to me to use a child. Pronatalism is an invisible pressure all around is. It is the pregnant women is a car advert patting her belly, the email advert for travel titled to “kid friendly destinations” Pronatalism is a pervasive pressure to have children and if you don’t you’re offered and ostracised. It’s a lived experience of many people without children - now one in five. Being anti pronatalism is not being anti parenting.
