I can't even begin to imagine what you are going through. My heart aches for you.

You clearly have a strong relationship with your dog. If your dog had a choice, he would choose you. You are his person. He would want to be with you. If your friend was able and willing to help you with anything you can't do, then this may be the perfect balance.

He will bring joy and comfort into your life and you bring that to him.

You are not being selfish in the slightest. Quite the opposite. You are considering the needs and welfare of you precious dog.
