I think this is a beautiful story. The father was clearly a good father in the first place, meaning the son wanted to be there for him.

There are many parents out there who aren’t such great parents. You reap what you sew. My dad has always been an absent father, a narcissistic man with little interest or encouragement toward me. I’m afraid I will not be looking after him in his later years. This does not make me unkind.
