Ignite the Kindness in Others and Give Away Your Unused Stuff

How a clear-out can induce an avalanche of kindness

Working with camels in Broome is a difficult job to match. This was the highlight of my trip, as an 18-year-old backpacker in Australia. Everything I wore during this year fitted snuggly inside my little tortoiseshell.

I have never had strong attachments to things. I struggle to place sentimental value on anything material. I have never succumbed to fashion trends and I loathe shopping. In actual fact, stuff in itself causes me stress.

If I haven’t used something for a year and can’t honestly expect to use it soon, I donate it to a charity shop. Alternatively, I give it to a friend or sell it. Keeping my belongings to a minimum brings zen into my life.

According to this article, the majority of people experience an adrenaline surge when they shop. Whereas I feel anxious shopping, but enjoy a physical boost and cleanse when I do a clearout. I’m an anomaly.
