Nice! It makes me feel so uncomfortable when parents try to dictate the lives of their children. But like you say, they don't know better. They are stuck in a cycle of trauma, shame and cultural norms and expectations. It is up to break the chains.
Your - 10 minute rule is something I use with my athletes. If you can't be bothered to go for a run, give yourself permission to quite after 10 minutes. So get up and go. The chances are once you have started you don't want to quit.
The whole kids choosing their own clothes - this is so very important! Someone close to me uses her children to play dress up. Heck, I can't even imagine putting that much thought into my own attire, let alone 3 children ontop of myself. AND - I have seen the damage of this sort of clothes dictatorship in my partner. I LOVE seeing kids going out higgledy piggledy. Heck, that's probably how I would dress them anyway if I had kids - as quite honestly, fashion and clothes isn't a passion of mine. But give them empowerment. Let them wear a pink pair of tights with a bat man jumper and a dress up crown. Let them wear clashing colours. Let them express themselves and find their style! :-)
