Oooft, this hit hard. I've heard these sorts of comments before. When I separated from my ex, I lost count of the amount of people who said "atleast you didn't have kids" as if my separation would therefore be a breeze.

Whenever a death is reported on TV they always describe the person by who they are to children.

Grandmother of 10, Mother of 2...

If I had a tragic and newsworthy death, perhaps they would say "She wasn't a mother, so it's no big loss" ...
