Sounds like you have the right balance. I think for a while I was in an echo chamber (not on Medium) when I was the chair of a community. I didn't realise how much I was part of an "us" and "them" at the time.

Respectful conversation and learning new ideas is superb. I feel I have learned a huge amount from my fellow Medium writers and have so much more to learn. I try my best to see the other side of the coin for something I feel particularly strongly about. It isn't always easy.
