Thanks for this. I received a few comments with unsolicited editing advice. It hurt. And actually, their amendments would have changed the meaning of the sentence. I responded saying something along the lines of “I’m not too sure how to respond to this comment. Thank you for reading the piece, perhaps it would have been kinder If you had private messages me your criticism. I’m always open to learning so if you can recommend any writing books that would be appreciated”

Funnily enough, she didn’t reply.
