This is really interesting. I hadn't thought about it like this before. I also get told "yeah, but you aren't that kind of vegan." just like I get told "yeah, but even though you don't have children you are great with kids."
Ultimately - I'm not a dick!
But like you sometimes my heart is screaming and crying and I want to open people's eyes. But they are not for me to open. If I am asked I give my opinion or views. If I am not asked, I don't.
Recently I read a tweet saying
"I have decided that I will adopt ahimas (non violence to every creature) very strictly in my life. I'm a vegetarian since 2015 but now I will also avoid hurting insects. I don't know why but I feel very bad when I try to kill cockroaches and mosquitos and remove the spider's web"
So I thought, ahhh, here is an appropriate person to suggest veganism to. They are saying they want to adoph ahimas strictly!
So I said
"Good for you, very noble.
Would you consider veganism to adhere to this? Dairy is full of exploiration and violence."
Then he said
"Thank you but please don't preach veganism to me keep it to your wall thank you. I'm a vegetarian. I eat eggs and milk so may be I become a vegan in future."
Was I preaching? Anyway... It's difficult to advocate for compassion and try and be the change you want to see in the world without alienating folk as well. Tight rope walk for sure!
