TW: Mentions suicide
I rolled my eyes as I caught sight of a new e-mail notification.
Here we go, I thought, Twitter is suspending me for my freedom of speech.
But on closer inspection, I saw that Twitter was actually checking in on me.
I have a Twitter account dedicated to decreasing the stigma of the childfree. Through this account, I build connections, alleviate loneliness, promote compassion to all and discuss community.
With all the recent discussions on an ageing population and the right-wing panic about low fertility rates, along with the barbed attack on non-parents with “just who is going to look after you when you are old” sort of comments, I had put out a Tweet about euthanasia.
I am pro-euthanasia. I appreciate it is an ethical minefield.
We have a right to life, and I believe we should have a right to death. Perhaps I will dedicate a story to this topic, but for now, I want to focus on the pleasant surprise of Twitter reaching out to me.
