Whole heartedly agree. And not to mention the baby shower gifts, the gifts when the baby arrives, the expectations of gifts for all the birthdadys.

I don't begrudge buying said gifts. BUT like you say, life paths ar very different for people these days. So let's be more equitable and celebrate all life achievements as they aren't limited to reproducing and marriage.

I read an article about a lass who created a gift list for her PhD and I am in full support. I LOVE IT!

Yael Wolfe did a brilliant article simlar to this one.

I would add a few more things to your list:

- Divorce or seperation. These are celebrations, let's not render them shameful.

- Setting up a new business. This takes enormous courage and work. Let's celebrate!

- Health and fitness goal achievements. This takes consistency and dedication. Celebrate it.

- Community work achievements, be it voluntary hours or what have you. Definite worthy cause for celebration.

Thanks for being a beacon in what can be a dark world on the path less trodden!
