Yes I absolutely agree that we can't expect people to behave according to our own standards. Fair point.
But, I think we can expect others to behave legally. The personal incidents Sandra describes are all criminal acts with the man as a perpetrator.
I spent 14 years investigating serious violent and sexual crimes. Whilst I'm not saying females never commit serious crimes, the prevalence of perpetrators of violent and/or sexual attacks is men on women. We all know this. There is a pandemic of violence against women.
And for all these crimes, there are victims. Victims who may share their stories to help their healing and to help others.
I understand it may be difficult as a man, to see regular stories on men in a rather negative light. But this in itself shows the prevalence of the issue. You are not being accused. But the sheer volume of the stories, as you have noticed yourself, shows how much we need change.
We need to keep talking about it. Keep raising awareness. We need to give the microphone to the victims and hear their words.
So whilst I can't expect or even ask anyone - male or female - to behave according to my own standards. I can expect to feel safe and not to be attacked. And I hope this is one point we can agree on.
