YES! In Ireland if you pass someone on a walk, they will politely say "hi, how are you?" but they don't actually want a reply. When I first moved here, if I replied and said "morning, I'm good, how are you?" they would look at me like I'm mad.

I like the "it's nice to see you" as that's a really positive thing said immediately. I'll try that one too :-)
